Take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line or give us a call (please!). In the meantime, let us tell you why you've made the right choice.
bwd is not like the others. I mean, we walk dogs sure, but we create and encourage desired automatic behaviours and don't deal in obedience or command training. We provide mentally challenging and focused on-leash activity in your own neighbourhood and around your dog's specific triggers so we can work on those responses in your stead.
We've all seen the packed dog parks at rush hours. For many people, it's tempting to think of off-leash activity as a fix all for a dog's behavioural issues. "They just need more exercise!" Unfortunately, a dog with recall, boundary, anxiety, and/or self-control issues may have their undesired behaviour reinforced by the unstructured and uncontrolled nature of dog parks. Those types of environments do not set up a dog to succeed. They are full of distractions and smells. Additionally, off-leash activity offers minimal behavioural returns and gains when it comes to walking your own dog on a leash in a one-on-one environment like most dog owners do more than once, every day.
The bwd method provides a structured environment where we work on the skills needed to encourage a balanced temperament. Your dog would be able to take those learned skills and behaviours to off-leash environments and execute them on their own.
If a dog comes home overtired and amped up, how are they going to be able to focus on listening to you? A tired dog is NOT a good dog and that turn of phrase should be put to bed. Have you ever seen an overtired child? How well do they listen or make good choices? For us, it's not about quantity; it's about quality.
Using the tenets of developmental psychology, bwd applies the cornerstones of behaviour modification and operant conditioning to your dog's baseline behaviour. Basically, we give them constructive ways to channel their excess energy, encourage recovery behaviours, and tell them when they've made a good choice or when to choose differently with clear and concise communication. We use the carrot and not the stick. This method works for demand behaviours, fixation behaviours, frustration behaviours, anxiety, stubbornness, and all the rest of it. We don't use extendable leashes, prong collars or choke chains, clickers, or shock collars.
